Cardiology Master CME: CHD and Metabolic Syndrome

COURSE OVERVIEW

Several studies have noted an increased risk of CHD in subjects with metabolic syndrome (MetS). The syndrome is characterized by abdominal obesity, atherogenic dyslipidemia, elevated blood pressure and impaired fasting glucose levels. The prevalence of MetS increases with increasing glucose intolerance while that of CHD markedly increases with the presence of MetS. The module discusses the role of early pathognic changes occuring in MetS leading to increased CHD risk and manging these subjects at early stages.
